The power of candles in your home

Light a few candles around your house or outside and you’ll not only save money on electricity but create a warm, summery ambience at the same time. Candles used to be the only source of light in the past and are vastly underrated nowadays. Candle lover or not, you can make great use of them, especially during the light nights and evening not only inside, but also in your garden during those summer parties or barbeques.

·         Lanterns: At one time lanterns were popular for portable lighting. Pop a candle in the middle and you can walk around the house or garden using it to light the way. Today lanterns are more commonly used as feature lights, especially products like the Blomus stainless steel lantern currently advertised for sale on our site. Pop them on hearths, indoor or outdoor tables, or window ledges to get the full effect.

·         Hurricane lights: Great for large pillar candles, hurricane lamps look just as good taking up pride of place in your living room, as they do placed on a garden table outdoors. They’re a fresh and appealing way to brighten up home interiors and the outside. We stock one of the best hurricane lamps from South Africa designer Carrol Boyes, check it out in our candle light section.

·         Candelabra:   A candelabra is basically an upmarket candle holder and the ideal addition to a dining table if you want to create a sophisticated atmosphere for a dinner soiree or a party. Try a Black and Blum Loop candelabra for added effect. It comes in a choice of chrome or satin silver finishes and is uniquely designed so one candle sits slightly higher than the other.

·         Tea light holders:  Tea lights are some of the cheapest candles you can buy but they won’t look cheap if you drop them inside a funky holder. We stock a range of tea light holders at Contemporary Heaven, choose LSA Tondo’s in a range of colours, various products from the Blomus collection, curved tea lights from Furnatics and a host of other candle accessories. They look great on fireplace hearths, tables, shelves or on the edges of a bath tub for instant effect.
