Top Tips To Create The Perfect Guest Bedroom

Do you love having people to stay? Is your home your pride and joy and somewhere that you love sharing with your friends and family? In that case, you’ll want to make sure that the decor in your guest bedroom is on point.

But what items do you need to elevate your guest bedroom from a rather bland space into one that has just the right touch of design and personality? According to Country Living, the key is to opt for bold colours and patterns.

Interior designer Penny Morrison told the news provider that accessories are an essential component to creating the right aesthetic too.

“They offer the opportunity to make rooms feel instantly younger and fresher with minimal effort,” she asserted.

Ms Morrison used her own guest bedroom as an example. The overall aesthetic is rather traditional, with floral wallpaper, antique furniture and a half-tester bed. However, she’s used accessories to bring colour and vibrancy to the space.

These little touches elevate it and make it much less formal - although if you want a more formal space for a particular guest, you can easily remove the vibrant accessories and change the appearance of the room.

In the guest bedroom, textiles are an important feature. Ms Morrison is a textile designer and has used offcuts of her own vintage fabrics to create cushions to scatter on the bed. The bedspread is also a mix of bright shades, to contrast with the more muted tones of the rest of the room.

She has also introduced quirky touches elsewhere, like the two bedside lamps whose bases are encrusted with shells.

Cushions are a great place to start if you want to add some pops of colour and texture to your guest bedroom. Dreamweaver cushions offer a range of colours, fabrics and styles, so whatever look you want to create you’re bound to find something to suit.

These kinds of touches could also mean that you tie in perfectly with some of the upcoming design trends for the year ahead too.

Good Housekeeping recently highlighted some of the top interior trends for 2020, with floral wallpaper and vintage accents among them. High contrast decor is another area that’s in for a revival, with people increasingly looking for ways of introducing dark elements into the design of a white or pale room.

Canopy beds are also making a comeback - and they could be the perfect addition to your guest room. Abbe Fenimore, founder of Studio Ten 25, told the magazine that a modern twist on canopy beds is particularly popular at the moment.

“Modern versions made with acrylic, metal, and sleek upholstered frames are making a comeback,” she asserted.

Cosy fabrics are set to rise in popularity, whether they are introduced on cushions, rugs, throws or other upholstered items. They bring texture and warmth to a space - think imperfect leathers, shearling and soft textured mohairs, the news provider revealed.

Don’t forget about what you hang on the walls either. Antique art is one area that’s expected to grow in popularity because people love the story behind it and the fact that it has a history. While finding the right artwork for your guest room will no doubt be a priority, you shouldn’t forget about other parts of your home too.

The kitchen is one space where we often don’t display art, but we’re missing a trick if that’s the case, the news provider noted.

Hanging art in this space will give it more personality and mean that it becomes more than just a functional room where you cook, but also a part of your home.

The Irish Examiner recently offered some suggestions as to how you could use a spare room in your home - one of the options is as a guest bedroom which, while hardly original, is one of the easiest and most sensible choices, the newspaper explained.

You don’t need to carry out any major renovations to get the perfect guest bedroom, you just need to pick up appropriate furniture and make sure it’s well carpeted. It also noted that, even if you don’t often use it as a guest bedroom, it can make it easier to sell your home when you put it on the market.

That’s because the number of bedrooms in a property has a big impact on its value. Even though people could turn a home office or cinema back into a guest bedroom once they moved in, it’s a much easier sell if it’s already set up as a sleeping space.
