What is the different between modern and contemporary interior design?

Contemporary and modern interior design is essentially the same thing, right?  Wrong.  Contemporary interior design and modern interior design are actually two completely different things.

Modern interior design

Modern interior design is not actually as modern as it may sound! It refers to a certain period in time, usually the ‘mid-century modern’ period which started in the 1920s and lasted until about the 1950s.  Modern design from this period was very different to the Victorian styles that came before it.  In comparison modern design was clean, simple and unadorned.  It popularly used a lot of natural materials like wood, linen and leather.  Colours were kept simple, neutral and natural and only subtle hints of other colours were used.  Walls in modern design were usually kept very pale and neutral, often painted in a bright and fresh white.  Modern design was refreshingly airy compared to the interior styles that preceded it.

Contemporary interior design

Contemporary interior design however refers to current and existing design trends that are popular in this moment in time.  It changes with the times and what is contemporary in twenty years will probably be different to the styles that are contemporary today.  Contemporary design is a general term for whatever style is currently popular and fashionable in comparison to modern interior design which refers to one period in time which will not change. Contemporary Heaven has what it takes to make sure you are always up to date with the current interior design trends so visit their site if you want to make sure that your interior design is contemporary and not just modern and outdated!
